Concerns on 5 Gallon Hot Water Heater

(This question is directed at U.S. home-owners with a propane tank for a stove, hot water heater, fireplace insert or other domestic appliances…and not the folks with the 5-gallon tank for the barbecue.)

I’m curious about the current cost of propane. Have you had your tank filled recently’ How much did you get’ Who is your provider’ How much did it cost’ Are you seeing a downward trend in price’ What part of the U.S. are you located in’

I live in western Washington state and could put 300 to 400 gallons in my tank if the price was right (I have a 1,000 gallon tank). My provider is Suburban Propane, but getting propane from them the last few times has been like buying a car…there’s a lot of negotiation on price.

Thanks for any feedback…
Thanks and don’t worry about the rants. Some of these guys are just price gougers. Last time I filled up with Suburban, they wanted $5.00/gallon. I checked with other local suppliers like Cenex and Ferrell, and they were all in the $2.65/gallon range. When I went back to Suburban and suggested they consider a more competitive price, they had a “take it or leave it” attitude. I also came close to switching providers but also had that whole “change the tank” thing to deal with, and after a month of basically harassing Suburban, they finally matched the local pricing. Now…this year with this huge glut of gas on the market (or so they say), Suburban wants (wait for it)…$5.18 a gallon!
@Thomasina…thanks for your answer, but I’m specifically not talking about a 5-gallon tank that is used for a barbecue or travel trailer. I have a 1,000 gallon tank…it’s not something I’m likely to drag off to Wal-Mart…and I rather doubt they’d be able to exchange it for me…
